DREAM COME TRUE FOR AARON

23 August 2012

Youngster on senior debut...

FIRST-year professional, Aaron Williams was handed his senior debut for the club as a second half substitute at Oldham Athletic on Tuesday evening where he gave a good account of himself.

Last season's youth team leading goalscorer has been with the club since Under-8 level and is the latest to come off the Banks's Stadium production line.

"To be involved on Tuesday night was a dream come true," said the West Bromwich-born striker. "I've been with the club since the age of eight and to progress up through the ranks is an achievement in itself, but to get into the first-team is fantastic for me.

"The Gaffer told me on Monday that I would be travelling so I knew that was the first step but when he told me to get warmed up on the night, the nerves started to kick in a bit!

"But when I came on I was determined to do a job for the Gaffer and the team.

"I didn't expect my chance to come so soon if I'm being totally honest, but all of the lads have been great and have been helping me with different aspects of my game. The Gaffer has also been giving me tips on how to hold off defenders as a former centre half himself and I felt that I held my own at Oldham."

So is Williams expecting another outing at Meadow Lane on Saturday as we travel to the East Midlands to take on Notts County?

"This is a team game and I want the team to do well and progress," he added. "So if the Gaffer feels that it is best to go without me on the bench, then so be it.

"I just have to keep working hard so that I am ready to take my chance when it next comes along."
