GRAY DEPARTS

No new deal for experienced wide-man...

THE SADDLERS have decided not to offer a new deal to Julian Gray after his short-term contract came to an end this week.

The 34 year-old wide-man rejoined the club at the end of September following a two-year spell in Cyprus.

Since then, has had to be content with a place on the substitutes’ bench, from where he has made 12 appearances this season, scoring his only goal at Gillingham last month.

“I am disappointed to have to let him go because I like him as a footballer and as a person,” said manager, Dean Smith. “Unfortunately he was unable to break into the starting line-up and make the impact that he wanted to.

“We certainly wish him well and we will be doing all that we can to assist him in finding another club.

“On behalf of everyone at Walsall FC, I would like to thank him for his efforts during his two spells with the club.”

Gray’s first spell with The Saddlers began in February 2010 as he went on to make a total of 64 outings, during which time he played in part in our ‘Great Escape’ in 2010/11.
